The Mindful Parent

Our six year old daughter was spending the day with her grandparents. They reported that she looked to her little sister and said, "if it weren't for you, I'd be an only child." One friend interpreted this story as an example of a sibling being hostile toward another. Our parents thought it was cute. A few days later I asked her what she meant by the comment. She replied, "Well, I love having a baby sister and if she wasn't born, I'd be alone. So, I love her so much and I'm glad she's my sister. But, if she wasn't born then I would have you all to myself. So, I'm sort of saying two things." Aren't we complex beings? Listening deeply helps cultivate true expression which, in turm, brings about a greater awareness of our connection to each other.

Mindful Parenting is a contemplative practice through which we become more mindful of our children and, in doing so, experience a more joyful life.
